A holiday in the Dolomites has so much to offer: Nature to enjoy, experiences to live, new things to learn, delicious food to taste … It is no secret that this area offers a treasure trove of attractions. Yet, the most beautiful mountains in the world are still full of secrets, which have been kept for thousands of years. Come and live an experience like no other here in the Dolomites – your holiday at our hotel in South Tyrol will be a memorable adventure!
On 26 June 2009 the UNESCO World Committee unanimously resolved to add nine regions in the Dolomites to the list of World Natural Heritage sites, thus officially confirming the uniqueness of the “Pale Mountains”. But what is it that makes the Dolomites really unique? Well, there are several features that make the Dolomites a “discovery destination” par excellence, a real draw for geologists and history lovers, nature fans and passionate climbers alike. The first reason lies in the variety of experiences and scenarios a holiday in the Dolomites has to offer. Then there is the turbulent history of these mountains, which arose millions of years ago as a coral reef in the primordial Tethys – a treat for those who are interested in history. The Bletterbach gorge offers insights into the history and geology of our planet, while various monuments, paths and exhibitions bear witness to the events of World War I which involved the Dolomites front. The linguistic features characterising this region are also worth investigating, in particular the Ladin language.
The Dolomites owe their name to the rock they are made of – the limestone dolomite, which is widely spread in this region. They are easily recognised by their light colour, which is bound to impress you on your first holiday in the Dolomites.
We could say that the real reasons that earned the Dolomites their place in the UNESCO World Heritage list are the beauty of the landscapes and their unique geomorphological peculiarities. Come see for yourself: nowhere else can you find such a strong yet harmonious contrast of gently sloping pastures and rugged peaks.
Two of the nine UNESCO-listed regions of the Dolomites are located in the immediate vicinity of our hotel in Castelrotto/Kastelruth: the Sciliar-Catinaccio/Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park and the Puez-Geisler Nature Park. A holiday in the Dolomites offers endless adventures, all-year round. Summer activities include hiking on the Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm, climbing and cycling in Val Gardena/Grödnertal, and paragliding high above the Dolomites. In winter, you can spend your time skiing on the perfectly groomed slopes (some of which have already become world famous) and on the wonderful cross-country trails, or exploring the Passo Pinei/Panider Sattel hiking in the knee-high snow.
